LANSDALE, Pa.—July 22, 2009—ProtonMedia, the developer of the ProtoSphere social teaming and collaboration platform, today announced Reginald P. Best has joined the company as President and Chief Operating Officer. Best will oversee day-to-day operations at ProtonMedia’s office in suburban Philadelphia, handling the company’s sales and marketing expansion and venture capital initiatives. He brings 25 years of experience in telecommunications, data networking, and IT security to the company, having successfully led initiatives involving venture capital fund-raising, sales channel development, and product strategy for growth-stage and Fortune 500 companies. He comes to ProtonMedia after its successful $2.5 million Series “A” financing round. Former President Ron Burns assumes the role of CEO.
Best will play a key role in the development and rollout of ProtoSphere 2.0, the company’s state-of-the-art social environment for highly effective online teaming. ProtoSphere is now used by several of the pharmaceutical industry’s leading brands, and two of the energy industry’s top 10 brands, to create engaging team environments that markedly improve the productivity and organizational effectiveness of geographically dispersed teams. Built with the enterprise in mind, ProtoSphere provides a secure platform with all the tools teams need to collaborate socially online, including holographic virtual spaces with interactive avatars and bots, document and application sharing, VoIP audio conferencing, text chat, presence awareness, video streaming, blogs, wikis, feeds, role playing simulations, content workflow, and enterprise social networking.
“Reggie brings crucial operations experience and skills to ProtonMedia at a key point in our growth and the evolution of the industry,” says Burns. “We’re leading the industry across the chasm separating early adopters and the early majority, where managers are seeking real benefits from social teaming and collaboration environments. With Reggie as our President and COO, we will maintain our leadership position in pharma and energy, and will open new markets by making collaboration environments even more practical for enterprise teams.”
Prior to joining ProtonMedia, Best was COO of AEP Networks. Best has founded several IT companies and successfully led them to acquisition, including Teleos Communications, AccessWorks Communications, and Netilla Networks, which was acquired by AEP. He began his career at AT&T Bell Laboratories as a product developer. Best holds a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from City College of New York, and a master’s degree in electrical engineering from Columbia University.
